Description: Alvorada are the UK’s leading performers of choro, a genre of instrumental music with rich melodies and infectious rhythms from Rio de Janeiro. From original compositions to classics of the genre, expect the irresistible swing of samba, the danceable grooves of forró, and a touch of tango and funk from this acclaimed group. Since forming in 2016, this tight-knit quintet has performed at festivals and venues across the UK and beyond, and has also appeared on BBC Radio 3 and JazzFM. In 2019 they were crowned ‘Best Brazilian Act’ in the LUKAS UK Latin Awards. Alvorada brings together top musicians from London and Brazil, whose diverse backgrounds, including jazz, classical and Brazilian music, lend the group a unique edge. Alvorada’s 2019 debut album First Light contains choro classics and original works, revisiting the genre with a modern edge, with crunchy harmonies, playful rhythms and mischievous melodies. Expect an uplifting evening of soulful Brazilian music as the band tour Dorset with Artsreach, supported by Live Music Now. "A fresh, innovative album… inventive harmonies and unpredictable melodic twists." Songlines Please let us know you saw us on What's On in Dorset!
