Description: For writer Thomas Hardy’s Birthday, we are offering a unique tour of Shire Hall’s history.
See how this historic building, in the heart of Victorian Dorchester, inspired some of Hardy’s most poignant works. Learn about his time as a magistrate and see what life was like for the contemporaries of Hardy’s characters. Hear about the woman whose hanging inspired ‘Tess’, and speculate on the influence that the many other real life cases Hardy observed from the bench and galleries had on his writing.
Limited to 10 people. Tour includes low lit areas and steep stairs. Book in advance online to avoid disappointment.
