Description: Part one 10am Gathering the Herbs for the Beltane Brew
The Beltane Beer is a vibrantly energising brew of traditional spring tonic herbs. In the morning we will be led by medical herbalist Eleanor Gallia as we forage for the herbs, gathering our cleansing and invigorating ingredients from around the lakes, riverbanks and woodlands at Nether Cerne. Join us on this herb walk and learn about the medicinal, energetic, ecological, culinary and celebratory properties of our glorious native weeds. The herbs we harvest will be brewed on the open fire by Vic in the afternoon workshop. Please wear appropriate shoes and clothing for this walk, and please do not bring dogs (due to sensitive wildlife). Bring any equipment useful for gathering, including secateurs, gloves, and a basket.
Part ii. 1pm Starting Off the Beltane Brew
The Cerne Abbas Brewery is rapidly making a name for itself with its innovative beers. Its Gurt Coconuts Rum Stout has won at several CAMRA festivals, and they’ve won two awards at two festivals! Continuing in this mode Vic Irvine, Head Brewer, will start this year’s May Day brew at The Granary in Nether Cerne . It will include the traditional spring tonic, nettles. Beer will be on sale, both on tap and bottled. Street food will be on sale. No dogs please.
