Description: Natacha Atlas is a superstar on the world music scene, known for fusing Arabic and Western music. We can’t quite believe she’s playing the intimate confines of the Studio as part of a very rare UK tour, her first for eight years, but we’re thrilled she is. Renowned for her Middle Eastern inflected vocals on top of traditional and Western settings, Natacha made her name in the 1990s, first with Transglobal Underground and Jah Wobble, then with a run of highly acclaimed solo albums, starting with 1995’s Diaspora. An amazing string of further albums, some with a traditional Middle Eastern backing, some fusing an array of influences, including the hugely acclaimed Ana Hina (2008), saw a gradual move towards a jazz setting, culminating with the release of Myriad Road, produced by the eminent French-Lebanese trumpet player, composer and producer Ibrahim Maalouf, in 2015. Her forthcoming album, scheduled for a spring 2019 release, will continue that path. Backed by an amazing band, she’ll be showcasing new material plus music from her extensive back catalogue. She’ll also be doing some festival dates reunited with Transglobal Underground. Natacha’s influences came from growing up in the Moroccan district of Brussels to an English mother and Sephardic Jewish father, and then a move to Northampton when her parents separated. As well as her extensive solo work, Natacha has collaborated with an eclectic group of distinguished names across a wide variety of musical genres including: pop (Peter Gabriel, Sinead O'Connor, Indigo Girls, and Jean-Michel Jarre); classical (Nigel Kennedy, Jocelyn Pook); film (Danny Elfman, Clint Mansell, David Arnold, Harry Gregson-Williams, Rachel Portman); and world music (Nitin Sawhney, Talvin Singh). Support comes from Randolph Matthews, vocal performer extraordinaire, who was nominated by Jazz FM in 2018 for ‘Best Live Performance’ a rising star in his own right. This should be an amazing gig - early booking advised. Please let us know you saw us in What's On in Dorset!
